Summer Reading

2nd Grade - Students entering 2nd grade will be required to read Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel.  After reading the book, your child must complete the Character Chart for the book.  Students will be required to take a quiz during the first week of school.  The Character Charts will be due by August 14, 2015.

3rd Grade - Students entering 3rd grade will be required to read Flat Stanley.  This is the first book in the series.  After reading the book, your child must decorate and cut out the attached Flat Stanley.  We ask that you photograph your child with their Flat Stanley during 3 summer activities.  Students must then display these photographs, with a brief description of the activity, on a 14x22 sized poster (1/2 of a standard sized poster.)  Students will be required to take an AR quiz during the first week of school.  The poster will be due on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

Hey, Summer Readers!! Get an AR book you have not yet read, read it, and design your very own book cover for that book.  Your cover should include the book title, author, and your very own illustration.  Have your cover ready when we return to school in August.  Also, be ready to take an AR test on your book when we return to school.  This will be an extra Reading grade to kick-off your best Reading year yet!

Remember, come to school in August with your very own creative book cover and ready to begin the new year with that extra grade!.....So find a cool place to curl up with your AR book and enjoy your summer reading adventure!

Happy Reading!

6th Grade

All incoming 6th graders are to select a Newbery Medal Award winning book or Newbery Honor book of their choice to read during the summer.   Check out the following link to see a complete listing of Newbery Winning and Newbery Honor books:

These amazingly good reads can be found at the local library, in bookstores, or Amazon.com.

Attached is a short book report Think Sheet.  Use this sheet to record thoughts and certain information as you read.  Students will then write a report based on that information.  Mrs. Breckenridge will be looking forward for the information from the think sheet in the report.  This work will be due the Friday of the first full week of the 2015-2016 school year.
